Persuasive writing

This week we had two topics to choose from and then we had to pick a side to agree with, I choose Should animals be kept in zoos.

Should animals be kept in Zoos?

I strongly agree that animals should be kept in zoos because they are much safer when being kept away from their predators, they will also live a better life because their natural habitats are being destroyed and people learn to understand them and learn how to take care of them.

Animals will be much safer if they are contained in safe places. If they are left out in the wild and they come across their predators it will not end well. If they are in a clean safe environment where they get fed all the time they will be much safer.

In the wild, animals' natural habitats are being destroyed! This is happening because of many reasons such as climate change, forest fires and many more unexpected things. We can save some habitats but not all so when they are in a place where they will have a healthy habitat forever it is much safer, and the zookeeper's can expect when horrible things may happen.

When animals are in zoos more people can learn about them and if they come across an animal that is in trouble they will be able to help. People can learn all the unique things about all sorts of different animals when they are in zoos.

In conclusion I think animals should be kept in zoos because it prevents them from going extinct, their homes in the wild are being ruined and they will live an all round better life. That's why I think we should keep animals in zoos.

Descriptive writing

 WALT: write a descriptive piece.

*Write to describe this setting, imagine you are there

*Starting with a brainstorm of your senses could help you.. For this task we had to describe a picture that Miss Power gave us this was the picture

This is how I described the picture

On a cold snowy night as I sit by the warm fire, the smoke pouring out of the chimney I roast marshmallows on my open fire whilst drinking a nice warm hot chocolate with 4 marshmallows bobbling on top. The cold draft comes through the cracks in the bottom of the door and it feels like I'm walking in snow. As I sit in my chair rocking it creaks like the floorboards do when I'm trying to sneak some chocolate. The moon shines through the clouds and the snow falls ever so carefully and as they float past the window It gives me shivers because it reminds me how cold it is outside. I snuggle into my covers and fall asleep.

Camp story

We went on camp on the 2nd of June till the 4th of June. I had so much fun but the best activity was tree climbing. We wrote a descriptive piece describing our favourite thing on camp, this was mine.

Hanmer Springs camp 2021

As I am tightening my harness around my waist I can feel myself getting more and more excited, the butterflies in my stomach fluttering less. The wind is blowing the trees about and it looks like they’re dancing about in the breeze. I walk up to the biggest tree with a buzz of excitement then I look up to see how tall it really is. I see Skylah go up and she goes up in a blast and my turn is coming faster than I thought and before I knew it I was clipping the carabiner onto my harness climbing the ladder up to the tree. When I feel the bark of the tree it spooks me but once I start climbing the tree it feels like I belong. Then I get to the top as fast as leaves blow on a windy day, as i'm coming back down I think to myself how difficult it would be to climb up blindfolded, so once I made it to the bottom feeling like I accomplished something big I get curious and ask to go up blindfolded and as I’m putting on the blindfold it goes pitch black, and as soon as I climb the ladder to the tree it feels like I belong I fly up as fast as a monkey and I feel proud because  made it without falling and on my way down I can't get the smile off my face.

Maori Feelings

This week for Te Reo we were learning Maori feelings and greetings, we can ask someone how they are feeling

Descriptive writing

WALT: write a descriptive piece of writing.

Today we will focus on the use of our descriptive language

-adjectives, verbs, adverbs, similes and personification.

When writing about one of the images you are pretending that you are there… What do you see, smell, feel, touch and taste?

The palm trees waving at me with the wind rustling them around, so joyfully it makes me want to dance. The boat engines roaring loudly yet so peacefully forcing little waves to come crashing against the shore. Golden sand in between my toes, the sand so hot but underneath so cool. The mountains in the distance closing me into the beautiful bay, the trees colouring the whole mountains emerald green, with only one way out. Looking into the baby blue water I see tons of colourful fish swimming past me in rows. I can see the whole rainbow right in front of my eyes.

Dear Archie,

It's been more than a year since I left, I hope you have been

looking after your mother and siblings. I am very proud that

you have been living without me, please write back to me and

let me know how things are going. I hope to be back in less

than a year to see how much you’ve changed. I have missed

you terribly and I found a new friend along my journey and

I hope you’ve had a great time at home. The food here has

been questionable and I have tried plenty of new things

but can’t wait to have dinner with you again.

Lots of love Dad

Athletics

On the 6th of April we went down Anzac Park for Grey District Athletics. I went down for the whole day and did the 1200m run which is three laps, 60m sprint and the long jump. I had lots of fun. It was cool when we got to watch other people. I came first in my heat for the 60m sprint and in the top 5 for long jump I jumped 3.65 metres.

Peppa Pig comic strip

When we were in the library we made comic strips, I chose to do one on Peppa Pig.

Report writing

This is my second report writing I wrote about Tasmanian devils

Tasmanian Devils are very interesting animals also known as Tazzy Devils, but sadly they are going extinct very quickly that's why they have a very specific habitat. They are also carnivorous so they only eat meat and mostly small animals, they don't breed very often so that is why they are going extinct.

You can find Tasmanian devils on the island of Tasmania In Australia, there is an area of around 35,042 square miles but they prefer coastal scrub lands and forests rather than the 35,042 square miles that they were given.

Tasmanian Devils are mostly carnivores but if they were given fruit they would probably eat it especially if they were starving. They mostly stick to eating small frogs, birds, fish and insects. They are most rowdy when going for a large carcass.

Tasmanian Devils can only breed up to 4 joey/pups each litter, they breed mostly from March to May and the females look for the most dominant males. Males are very rough with their female partners but in their world that is how they show their love.

They can be picky of what they eat, where they live and who their man is but it is their life and they want it to be as good as it can. It is quite interesting that they can have no more than 4 joeys at a time but I wonder if there has ever been a conjoined Tasmanian devil guess i'll have to do more research.

Note Taking Task - Bees

Please make your own copy of this and add to your reading folder.

WALT: Take notes in our own words

Topic: Are Bees Important?

Source 1

Title: Bees are the VIP’s

Date : 10/03/21

As you read the article, take notes about the important information. Remember: you don’t need to write in full sentences

General Information

Any other interesting information

Some flowers can self pollinate and some use wind but you can't always be sure of that. Bees don't see the colour red, and they can smell quite well, so they mostly pollinate sweet-smelling yellow or blue flowers. Other animals make different flowers.

The male part is called a stamen and the female part is a stigma the bees help get the pollen from the stamen to the stigma. If we didn't have bees we wouldn't have ⅓ of our food.

In Full Sentences answer the following questions

What is the main idea of the text?

How do you know this?

The main idea is to tell people and help people understand bees and how pollination works.

I know this because there are many many facts about bees and pollination  and that is how I understood this.

Ally description from Fish in a tree

Hello Bloggers, we are reading a novel called Fish In A Tree. It doesn't give you an explanation of how she looks so we all had to make an avatar of what we think she looks like this is my opinion.
