Region writing

New Zealand is a place with many regions but I like Otago the most. Otago has lots of amazing universities such as University of Otago, Otago Polytechnic and loads more. Their population is 236, 200 and their area is around 31,251 km² but there are lots more facts about the Otago region based at the bottom of the South island of New zealand.

European settlement of the eastern part of the area began in the late 1830s and was spurred on by a gold rush in 1861. It was first found in 1851 with the public already on it. The town of Oamaru is known for its white limestone buildings. The Maoris call this amazing place Otepoti.

There are many landmarks in Otago but the best one has to be The Nugget Point Lighthouse. It is a 40 minute walk and you might even be able to see seals and penguins nearby. The wanaka lavender farm is another cool thing to go see because they are massive purple fields which smell amazing. There are many more amazing landmarks you have to go see.

Walk up to the clock on the hill, at 11 meters wide it is one of the largest in the world. In summer, visit a local fruit orchard with apricots and cherries; they are the region's specialties. In winter, go ice skating or try your hand at curling at the local outdoor ice rink, it’ll be so much fun.

So know you know Otago is one of the best regions in New Zealand, it is a fun filled place that has lots to do. If you come to New Zealand you will know that you could even go to university in Otago which is quite lucky because some places don’t have universities so even if you have to travel far Otago will make you feel at home.

  1. Hi Aimee, I'm Zahrah from YMS Rimu.

I liked the way you have used lots of punctuation.

Did you think about reading your writing?

Next time, you could put your writing in a slide.

    See you later!
